ABOUT US

The choir

The Meljon Singers was formed in 1990 when a group of friends realised there was a gap in the local East London singing community.

They were looking for a chance to sing music outside the mainstream a cappella repertoire and within a small and fast-learning group. Over three decades on the choir has around 30 singers who thrive on the wide ranging repertoire and the stimulating rehearsals run by their Musical Director, Janette Ruocco. These rehearsals are held weekly during term time, mostly in Buckhurst Hill. The majority of the choir’s concerts are held in and around East London, but the choir occasionally performs in central London and elsewhere in the UK, and has undertaken tours in Italy. It was a group of friends that formed the choir, and they like to make sure that each member of the audience is treated as a friend too.
